The second training workshop on the Overlapping Generations Macroeconomy Model for Ethiopia (OG-ETH) took place in Addis Ababa from 11 to 15 May 2026. This workshop was a follow-up to the inception workshop held in November 2025 and was part of the project entitled Rebuilding Better and Greener from the COVID-19 Pandemic through Enhanced Design and Implementation of Sustainable National Recovery Strategies Based on Policy Simulations, which is funded by the UN Peace and Development Trust Fund.
The five-day intensive workshop brought together 47 participants from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Planning and Development, Policy Studies Institute, Ethiopian Economics Association, UNECA, universities, research institutions, and development partners. Through hands-on training, participants deepened their understanding of the OG-ETH model, including its theoretical foundations, Ethiopia-specific calibration, practical workflow, and use for simulating reforms and shocks. Participants worked in teams to analyze policy questions including conflict, climate shocks, fuel subsidy reform, oil price shocks, social protection, artificial intelligence and automation, budget deficit reduction, agricultural capital deepening and inequality, financial liberalization, and human capital formation.
Participants presented their team projects, demonstrating the practical application of the OG-ETH model to a range of policy questions relevant to Ethiopia. The workshop reinforced the importance of continued collaboration between UN DESA and Ethiopian partner institutions to further develop the model and support evidence-based policy analysis.
